Tech Ableism and Other Stories....

Not a horrible incident, but yesterday, I was momentarily feeling logged out of my e-mail program and thinking I'd get in via other browser. I mistyped my password so thought about making a change and got a whole minute to enter a code. I didn't need it...the stuck download proceeded(I'm not sure what happened)

But it stuck with me because I'm slow.(I still feel the need to qualify that with "Not at everything," which is the same kind of internalized ableism  that made me feel like going through life with "The Smart One" as a caption under my name. There are a lot of assumptions embedded when a programmer decides what "anyone" can do under a minute. Because I, likely, can't, but that doesn't mean I don't use your e-mail system or automated dialler.

Also, I think people think ableism, or disability discrimination is some kind of giant incident(such as Trump v. Kovalesky, or other mockery or disparagement.Which is ableist, yes, but many more incidents are more subtle and just, sort of forget us.)
